At the AudiologyNOW! AAA 2015 conference in San Antonio, Texas, Oticon President Peer Lauritsen presented a $25,000 donation to the American Academy of Audiology Foundation’s (AAAF) Empowering People scholarship fund. The check was presented to Angela Shoup, PhD, Chair, Foundation Board of Trustees.
According to Oticon, this is the fourth year that the company has provided funding that will enable AAAF to award five $5,000 scholarships to graduate students earning AuD or PhD degrees in audiology who show exceptional promise as clinical audiologists.
“We are proud to again partner with the American Academy of Audiology Foundation to empower people who are the future of the profession,” said Lauritsen. “Our aim is to provide the support needed today to ensure a future of skilled and caring hearing care professionals who share our commitment to putting the needs of people with hearing loss first.”
Shoup thanked Oticon for their ongoing support of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts, and said that the company’s generous gift would help “lighten the financial burden for deserving students and help ensure the vitality of the profession of audiology.”
The deadline for scholarship applications for the 2015-16 academic year is April 30, and AuD or PhD students in audiology who are interested in applying for funding from the AAAF Scholarship Program can visit the AAAF website for more information.
