Sonova and Phonak have announced the 7th Annual Judith Gravel Fellowship in Pediatric Audiology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Department of Otolaryngology. The fellowship was created by the Hear the World Foundation in 2010 and is named in honor of the late Judy Gravel who passed away in 2008.

“Dr Gravel was internationally renowned for her expertise in pediatric audiology and for her many contributions to clinical research and professional service,” said Professor Richard Seewald, a member of the advisory board for the Hear the World Foundation. “She is also remembered for her dedication to the advancement of educational opportunities for students and clinicians. With this fellowship, the foundation carries on her mission.”

Hear the World Foundation reports that earlier this year UNC Pediatric Audiology was selected to receive the Richard Seewald Award, an international award conferred annually by the foundation to recognize an exemplary program specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss in children.

The Gravel Fellowship is awarded each year to a fourth-year Doctor of Audiology (AuD) student whose externship is completed at UNC Hospitals with a focus on audiological management of infants and young children with hearing loss. The $15,000 award covers the period beginning June 1 through May of the following year in order to help support the student’s educational needs in pursuing a career in pediatric audiology. The 2015-2016 recipient was Lauren Charles, who earned her doctorate in Audiology from the University of Arizona.
