Missouri Academy of Audiology California Academy of Audiology Keynote speaker for the event will be Patrick Feeney, president of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA). Highlighted speakers will include AARP California State President Jeannine English, and Charlotte Moore, PhD, Pacific Neurophysiological Systems—one of the first audiologists to do intraoperative monitoring. Robert Sweetow, PhD, director of audiology for UCSF Medical Center, will also be a featured speaker. Highlighted topics for the conference will include genetics, a wireless technology round table, and a cerumen management workshop. Pre-conference training is scheduled for September 10 with workshops conducted by HIC representing Widex, Phonak, and Siemens. Pending CEUs: 21 hours for AAA/SLPAB; 3 hours for tier 1 ABA; and 11.5 hours for HADB.
Academy of Rehabilitative Audiology (ARA) ARA annual conference will take place in Portland, Ore, September 11 through September 12. Keynote speaker is Robert Sweetow. There will be a pre-conference worshop at Frye Electronics September 10 and a post-conference Tinnitus Treatment workshop September 13. The Jackson Laboratory This meeting is designed to provide an opportunity for established investigators and students to interact and exchange ideas regarding the use of new and developing technologies to study the ear of the mouse. One objective is to provide non-mouse researchers an introduction to the mouse through reviews, tutorials and hands-on workshops. Another objective is to provide state-of-the-art information to experienced investigators through research talks on new developments and special topics of current interest. Finally, meeting participants are provided an opportunity to communicate their research findings through podium and poster presentations. Topics include: Ear development, Proteomics of the inner ear,RNA interference and microRNAs, Large scale gene knock-out projects, Age-related and noise-induced hearing loss, Hair cell structure and function, Hair cell regeneration and stem cell replacement, Auditory CNS processing, Vestibular function, Mouse models of otitis media.

The International Hearing Society (IHS) This event is recognized by the Department of Health and Human Service’s National Health Information Center and is included in the
2008 National Health Observances Calendar. Insufficient consumer awareness of state-of-the-art hearing instrument technology and a general tendency to deny the presence of hearing problems motivated IHS to dedicate the week to public education.
Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming Speech Language Hearing Assn Kansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association Audiology Foundation of America Conference is intended as a 20-year review of AuD education progress and as a help in determining future goals and improving current models of AuD education delivery. AuD programs will be represented by both program directors and recent graduates. Glenn Tecker, a professional facilitator, will guide the dialogue so representatives can work together to detail needed changes and positive outcomes. There will also be representatives in attendance from eight professional audiology organizations, and a keynote address by Dr. Thomas E. McWilliams, DO, FACOFP, on the change history seen in osteopathy education and its parallels to audiology.
