HOUSTON, Tex — More than 100 Houston-area residents gathered March 15 to demonstrate their support for the Hearing Aid Tax Credit and to thank Rep Nick Lampson (D-Tex), himself a hearing aid wearer, for his support. Listening to the concerns of members of the Hearing Loss Association of Houston (HLA Houston) and the Texas chapter of The Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell), Lampson heard his constituents praise their hearing aids but express concern over the lack of financial support to purchase them.

Speaking at the event’s conclusion, Lampson spoke of his own hearing loss and the need to continue to build bi-partisan support for the tax credit. Addressing the bill’s largest objection, its cost, Lampson noted that tax incentives like HR 2329 can be equated to investing in education and that addressing the problem now will “truly cost us less money in the future.”

Closing the day’s event, Lampson pledged to promote the tax credit, saying “there is probably no more important legislation that I can work on in the House of Representatives right now.” Following the event, Lampson became the 75th co-sponsor of the legislation.
