AG Bell The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced the appointment of AG Bell to its consumer advisory committee. The committee makes recommendations to the FCC regarding consumer issues. AG Bell parent Janice Schacter, whose daughter is hard of hearing, will serve as AG Bells representative on the committee. Schacter, a former attorney, started advocating for access to assistive listening devices when taking her daughter to the theater and family trips. Since then, she has founded the Hearing Access Program, a collaboration between AG Bell, The League for the Hard of Hearing Communication, and Self Help for Hard of Hearing that promotes appropriate access to public cultural and entertainment venues for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Unitron CAOHC Madeleine J Kerr, PhD, RN, has been appointed a representative for the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses. She is an associate professor of nursing and principal investigator of the Hearing Protection Study at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Lt Col Vickie Tuten, AuD, represents the Military Audiology Association and is currently serving as the chief of hearing conservation at Fort Hood, Tex. She also serves as the audiology and hearing conservation consultant for the Great Plains Regional Medical Command. Stephen J Wetmore, MD, MBA, will represent the American Academy of OtolaryngologyHead and Neck Surgery. He came to West Virginia University in 1988 as professor and chairman of the otolaryngology department. His main area of interest is in diseases of the ear, including hearing loss, dizziness, tinnitus, facial paralysis, and surgery of the ear and skull base. J Adin Mann III, PhD, will represent the Institute of Noise Control Engineering (INCE) and will join the council at the fall 2005 meeting in Rosemont, Ill. I cant believe I won again, Gluck said. Im still in shock. After regaining her composure, Gluck continued: I dont like the limelight, but I do appreciate this award.
