James Jerger to Keynote AAA General Assembly
The American Academy of Audiology (AAA) will hold its annual convention at the Minneapolis Convention Center on April 5-8. The Academy announced that James Jerger, PhD, will provide the keynote address at the General Assembly. Jerger has sometimes been referred to as the Father of Modern Audiology and is, without question, one of the most prominent and prolific pioneers of audiology. Jerger has served as editor-in-chief for the Journal of the American Academy of Audiology (JAAA) since it was established in 1989, has served as the author or co-author of over 300 publications, and is also an original founder of the American Academy of Audiology.
Jerger is currently the Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at the UTD Callier Center for Communication Disorders. His current research interests focus on auditory processing disorders in both children and seniors (see interview with Jerger in the October 2002 HR). He recently established the Texas Auditory Processing Disorder Laboratory at UTD, and teaches audiology students at the Center.
Jerger has been affiliated with AAA from its inception, and has unique viewpoints on the development of AAA, its annual meetings, the education of audiologists, and the profession in general. He will share his insights on the changes that have taken place during his speech.
John Sweeney, comedian and author of the book Innovation at the Speed of Laughter: 8 Secrets to World Class Idea Generation, will also provide food-for-thought during the Opening Session. Sweeney has performed more than 1,500 live shows for the Brave New Workshop and Second City Communications in Chicago, and more than 500 corporate shows (including over 50 performances for Fortune 100 companies, including Microsoft, General Mills, and Target). He is the owner of the Brave New Workshopthe nations oldest satirical comedy theatre, has created a world-renown school for improvisation, and appeared in dozens of television commercials.
