Audiology Foundation of America The Audiology Foundation of America (AFA), Lafayette, Ind, has awarded two scholarships to audiologists who have enrolled in distance education programs. Michael Pengelly and Jennifer Reside were each awarded $1,000 scholarships, funded by Widex, during a drawing at the AFA booth during the 2005 AAA Convention.
Pengelly began classes at the Arizona School of Health Sciences in fall 2005. Reside, who holds degrees from the University of Iowa and Louisiana Tech University, will attend the University of Floridas distance education program beginning in spring 2006. She currently works in a private practice in Minnesota dispensing hearing aids and administering vestibular evaluations. Meeks holds a BA from the University of South Florida, and has worked for MedRx in previous positions. She has also worked in a retail hearing aid dispensing office, gaining consumer and retail experience in the hearing care industry. Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation
The new executive committee is led by CAOHC Chair James Banach, MBA, representing the American Industrial Hygiene Association on the council. He is currently the CIO and vice president of operations for Quest Technologies.
Vice-Chair Mary M. McDaniel, MS, represents the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) on the council. She owns the consulting firm of Pacific Hearing Conservation Inc, Seattle, and also serves as an adjunct audiologist to the Center for Hearing Health, San Ramon, Calif.
Paul J. Brownson, MD, secretary/treasurer, is a representative of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. He is the corporate medical coordinator for The Dow Chemical Company, Indianapolis.
Richard W. Danielson, PhD, immediate past chair, represents the American Academy of Audiology. He is an associate professor of otorhinolaryngology and communicative sciences at Baylor College of Medicine and the National Science Biomedical Research Institute, Houston. Danielson also serves as the manager for audiology and hearing conservation at the Johnson Space Center-NASA.
CAOHC also approved two new council members for its board of directors. Robert Thayer Sataloff, MD, DMA, is a representative of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. David D. Lee, MIS, CIH, CSP, will represent the American Society of Safety Engineers. He is currently a safety specialist at the University of Nevada, Reno. Amplifon USA Amplifon USA, Minneapolis, has promoted Brian Taylor to director of professional development. In this role, Taylor will continue to manage a professional development staff and oversee the delivery of training courses and educational material to the companys hearing care specialists, as well as direct new product and equipment launches for the company. The company has also hired Kristi Albers, e-learning manager, and Yvette Duran, software development engineer. Albers will offer support to Audiology Onlines E-Learning department in efforts to ensure customer satisfaction, and to assist corporate partner companies in developing a larger library of online event offerings. Duran will administer day-to-day maintenance and operations of the Web site. She will also be involved in assessing the platform for new and updated features to improve the visitors overall experience. |
