Johns Hopkins: 1 in 5 Americans Has Hearing Loss

A new study from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine researchers reveals that nearly a fifth of all Americans, 12 years or older, have hearing loss so severe that it may make communication difficult. The researchers also found that women and blacks are significantly less likely to have hearing loss.

Sonova Reports Sales Growth Thanks to Spice and ERA Platforms

Sonova Holding AG announced half-year results for the period ending September 30, 2011. The company saw strong organic growth from its Phonak Spice and Unitron ERA platforms. The Group generated sales of CHF 763.0 million ($852,042,100) in the first half of fiscal 2011/12; however, this was a decrease of 8.2% in reported Swiss francs compared to the previous year’s period due to a negative currency impact of 16.5%.

WDH Group Reports Strong Third Quarter

For the third quarter of 2011, the William Demant Holding Group (WDH) reports that its hearing aid business generated high organic growth rates and captured significant market shares. The company also said that it expects the wholesale revenues of hearing aids to exceed market growth by 6% to 8% and to continue earnings and growth.
