Sivantos In July 2015, Sivantos hosted 45 select audiology students from universities around the country for a two-day workshop called Sivantos Student University. An invitation-only event held at the Sivantos US headquarters in Piscataway, NJ, the attendees of the workshop were recommended by their universities as especially promising and driven audiologists-in-training who demonstrated exceptional aptitude and interest in working with hearing instruments.

After being welcomed by Scott Davis, CEO of Sivantos US, participants attended lectures by researchers and opinion leaders in the field of audiology. Gus Mueller, PhD, Susan Scolli, PhD, and Christopher Spankovich, PhD, talked about hot topics in amplification, such as frequency compression, tinnitus management, and real ear measurements. Practical presentations by Sivantos and HearUSA experts were intended to complement the academic lectures. Practical topics included The ABC’s of Private Practice in Today’s Dynamic Market by Ron Gleitman, PhD, vice president of business development; and Navigating Your Career Path by Sheneekra Adams, AuD, division manager at HearUSA.

According to Sivantos, a series of break-out sessions consisted of hands-on experiences, listening demonstrations, and a factory tour led by representatives of the Sivantos training and product management teams, during which Siemens products and innovations were showcased. In addition, “early bird” sessions were offered the afternoon of July 22 on Resume Writing & Interviewing by Navid Taghvaei, AuD, educational specialist; Humanitarian Audiology by Catherine Jons, AuD, educational specialist; and Job Opportunities for AuDs by Pam Dorn, AuD, senior manager, Valentin Gruber, country head US for hear.com, and Christine Sever, MA, general manager of Rexton. These sessions were reportedly as well-received as the following two days of the official workshop.

“We wanted to expose students to topics outside the classroom that are intended to promote networking with peers and mentors, and help them gain confidence in their clinical abilities through multiple points of view from the guest speakers,” said Tina Cecere-Hunter, senior manager for marketing meetings & events.

The attendees’ feedback forms reportedly reflected positive comments about the binax listening demos and the list of speakers.
