In recent years the power demands of hearing aids have increased with the introduction of numerous features like wireless programming, feedback algorithms, and noise management. In addition, the majority of hearing aids fit in the U.S. have wireless streaming capabilities which increases battery drain. Studies of consumers report a gap between hearing aid satisfaction scores and satisfaction with battery life.

This paper reviews how different hearing aid technologies and patient wear habits affect battery life, the types of rechargeable hearing aid batteries available, and how they differ. And the need for practitioners to understand their patients listening habits in order to match the communication and listening needs of patients with the right technology.
