During May graduation exercises, Salus University and the University of Florida awarded Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) Professional Leadership Awards to their most outstanding AuD students, says AFA, Lafayette, Ind.

Marci Evans was the winner at Salus, and Xueman Liu was the winner at the University of Florida.

Award winners are chosen based on their positive attitude and strong work ethic throughout their AuD program, their involvement in professional activities to promote the profession and patient care, and their dedication to public service, says AFA.

Evans is a Chicago-area audiologist with a passion and belief in the AuD movement and in private practice for audiologists, says AFA. She was a founding member and long-time board member of the Illinois Academy of Audiology, and remains active with that organization. She currently works as a consultant to Etymotic Research and serves on the AuD advisory board for Northern Illinois University.

Liu is a native of China and, after pursuing a PhD in audiology, intends to return to China with the hope of creating the first formal graduate audiology program and contributing to the education and training of future Chinese audiologists, says AFA.

The AFA is an educational foundation that aims to empower audiologists to be independent and autonomous practitioners by supporting their educational preparation, professional practice, and leadership development.
