Austin — The University of Texas has named Victor Hugo Bray Jr as its 2010-2011 College of Communication Outstanding Alumnus. Bray currently serves as vice president and chief audiology officer
at OtoKinetics, as well as dean of the George S. Osborne College of Audiology at Salus University in Pennsylvania.
The Outstanding Alumnus Award is given each year to a University of Texas College of Communication graduate who has made outstanding contributions to his or her profession and society. Prior recipients have included Tex Schramm, Lady Bird Johnson, and Liz Carpenter.
Bray earned his doctorate in speech and hearing sciences from The University of Texas in 1992 and continued his career in direct patient care. He later transitioned to working within the audiology product industry after seeing dramatic changes in patient hearing as a result of advanced hearing aid signal processing. He has co-developed 20 hearing aid products that are sold worldwide.
"Victor’s commitment to the college through student scholarships and his outstanding career as a communication professional, have brought distinction to our college," said Roderick P. Hart, dean of the College of Communication, in the press statement.
In 2004, Bray received the Hearing Industries Association Volunteerism Award in recognition of his dedication, expertise and effort in creating a "structure that ensures the substance and the science that supports hearing aid marketing and advertising in America."
In addition to serving as a dean at Salus University in Pennsylvania, Bray is vice president and chief audiology officer at OtoKinetics, which develops implantable hearing aids. Earlier in his career he was director of Clinical Research for ReSound Corporation and vice president and chief audiology officer for Sonic Innovations.
