In the ongoing search for improved speech understanding in noise, the importance of directional hearing is often underrated. This article, written in 1996 by Starkey Labs’ engineer Dr Jerry Agnew, re-examines the basic principles of directional hearing instruments and looks ahead at the use of “directionality in CIC and DSP hearing instruments of the future.”
