Washington, DC — On Sunday, April 8, National Public Radio (NPR) prominently featured the evolution of cochlear implants and their life-changing effects on the deaf community, especially children.
The 11-minute program discusses how cochlear implants have had a positive effect on teenagers who were born deaf, as well as the technology’s implications for schools that teach deaf children.
With cochlear implants, many deaf schools are seeing their enrollments decline and are expanding their enrollment to children who are challenged by related disorders, such as autism.
