The 33rd World Congress of Audiology (WCA2016) will be held September 18-21, 2016 in Vancouver, Canada. The conference, co-sponsored by the Canadian Academy of Audiology (CAA) and Speech and Audiology Canada (SAC), will host representatives from over 25 countries and all continents except for Antarctica.

The WCA2016 conference co-chairs, Kathleen Pichora-Fuller, PhD, and Marshall Chasin, AuD, share some of the highlights of the congress as well as what attendees and their families can look forward to experiencing while attending WCA 2016 in Canada.

The World Congress of Audiology is the biennial meeting of the International Society of Audiology (ISA). The WCA2016 is hosted as a joint effort by Canada’s two national audiology associations – the Canadian Academy of Audiology (CAA) and Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC). The co-chairs acknowledge the cooperation of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) during the planning for WCA2016, beginning with their help in making the bid to hold the Congress in Vancouver.

Attendees will likely enjoy Vancouver, which is considered one of the most beautiful of Canadian cities, offering both spectacular nature and a lively urban scene. The city is lined with ocean beaches and surrounded by mountains, with many accessible parks and forest trails within walking distance of the WCA2016 location. It is a safe and multi-cultural city with amazing restaurants and a wide variety of attractions. Relatively short trips beyond Vancouver might include whale watching on the Pacific Ocean, skiing on glaciers at Whistler Mountain where the 2010 Winter Olympics were held, or sampling wine in the famous Okanagan Valley in the interior of British Columbia.

The WCA2016 program will feature many timely and relevant themes spanning research and practice in audiology. The program will include plenary roundtable sessions; an exhibition and opportunities to learn about the latest advances in the hearing industry; pre-conference workshops that feature a range of cutting-edge topics; networking opportunities and interactions amongst delegates from many countries; special sessions designed to include students and those from related disciplines and professions, and many social events planned by the WCA2016 team.
