Language People—a company that provides interpretation and translation services—has named Newport Beach, California, the first “Deaf-Friendly City” in the United States, according to an article in the Los Angeles Times

Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and non-English speakers now have access to tablets that allow them to connect to interpreters at Language People, who help translate information regarding city services at libraries, City Hall, and other facilities.

According to the article, Newport Beach is the first local government to offer the service to the public.
