Oticon, Inc employees turned a company end-of-summer picnic into a back-to-school benefit for area students, the hearing aid manufacturer announced. In partnership with the United Way “Stuff the Bus” program, Oticon employees led a company-wide drive for donations of much needed backpacks and school supplies for local youngsters. The donation of new school supplies allows children to start the school year on the right track with a strong basic foundation. According to United Way research, nearly 30% of Somerset County, NJ families do not earn enough to be self sufficient. The Stuff the Bus program aims to alleviate the strain on already strapped household budgets and give local children the basic tools they need to succeed in school.

Throughout the year, Oticon employees participate in a number of community-benefitting events. In June, a team of Oticon volunteers laced up their running shoes for participation in the Flag Day 5K Run/Walk to raise funds for NJ Hope for Veterans, a charity serving at-risk veterans in New Jersey. Plans are already underway for Oticon volunteers to provide hearing screenings and practical hearing health advice for the annual Franklin Day Festival in September.
