According to AuDConnex, each recipient was awarded a $500 scholarship and a two-year membership to the Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA). This year’s winners of the AuDConnex scholarships are Missouri State University student Candace Coleman and University at Buffalo student Jacqueline Drexler.

“Giving back is a big part of our philosophy at AuDConnex,” said Michael Iliff, AuD, founding member of AuDConnex. “We’re so happy to be able to award these scholarships for a second year and hope we can continue this program well into the future. This scholarship allows us to help future audiologists, and share our message of independence and collaboration in the world of hearing healthcare.”

To be eligible for the scholarship package, entrants had to be a third or fourth year audiology student, and were required to submit a 100-words or less essay explaining why independent hearing practices are important to the hearing healthcare community. The company reports that they received many submissions from students this year. “The essays were not only impactful, but also refreshing, and it’s good to know the independent and organic model is still important to our up-and-coming doctors of audiology,” Iliff added.

“This scholarship will allow me to take advantage of the resources provided by ADA. By accessing these resources, I can remain updated on audiology practices and advocacy initiatives. It is important, as a professional and as an advocate for this field, to keep up with evidence-based practices and the current issues that can affect audiology,” said Drexler.

“By awarding me this scholarship, AuDConnex has lightened my financial burden enabling me to focus more on learning.  I’m thankful for the generous financial support towards the pursuit of my degree. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as AuDConnex has helped me,” Coleman said.
