A $12,000 grant from Oticon, Inc, has enabled Sertoma International to award $1,000 college scholarships to students with hearing loss. The 12 winning students with mild to profound hearing loss were selected from over 200 entries submitted by students from across the country. This is the eighth year Oticon has supported Sertoma’s scholarship programs for young people with hearing loss.
The 2007 scholarship winners are the following: Brent Daniel, Iva, SC; Matt Young, San Pedro, Calif; Bridget Peffer, Buffalo, NY; Stephanie Duttweiler, Hampton, Ga; Katherine Radasevich, Naperville, Ill; Philip Mendonca, Stockton, Calif; Stephanie Kumm, Prior Lake, Minn; Julia Buhnerkempe, Effingham, Ill; Harold Couch, Pueblo, Colo; Tyler Marley, Beaverton, Ore; Alison Ecker, Albany, Ore and Stacie Coombs, Paradise, Utah.
Students can use the awards for any school-related expenses including tuition, books and supplies during any academic term, including summer term.
“Since 1994, Oticon has contributed to scholarship and other programs that benefit students with hearing loss through Sertoma International,” Peer Lauritsen, president of Oticon, Inc, says. “We believe that young people with hearing loss have the potential to make enormous contributions to the world. Through the scholarship program, we aim to help them acquire the education they need to achieve their goals.”
Oticon is a long-time supporter of the educational initiatives of Sertoma International, one of the oldest civic service clubs in the U.S. promoting civic responsibility through community service.
