Knoxville, Tenn— Three executives from Safeco Insurance will visit the Child Hearing Services (CHS) program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) and hold a reception for the staff. The insurance company recently donated $10,000 to the program in honor of an employee’s granddaughter.

In December 2011, Safeco donated $10,000 to the university’s Audiology and Speech Pathology Department for the CHS program. The donation was given in recognition of the CHS program’s help for Emerson Grace Doty, a 6-month-old baby girl who is the granddaughter of a Safeco employee.

The three executives visiting the CHS facility are Cecil Booher, vice president and southeast region general manager; Lee Allison, assistant vice president and region manager; and Derek Wright, territory manager. They are visiting to thank the staff for their work and to meet patients served by CHS.

After their tour, the executives will host a reception for about 40 people to further acknowledge the CHS hearing health workers for their efforts treating children with hearing loss.

“Through their support, Safeco Insurance has contributed to the ability of our expert clinical faculty and graduate students to provide the highest standard of care to children in the state of Tennessee who have significant hearing loss,” said Ashley Harkrider, PhD, director of the UTHSC Audiology and Speech Pathology Department. “For more than 40 years, many families have traveled long distances, often more than once a week, to receive our services. We are incredibly grateful that Safeco Insurance recognizes and values the positive difference that our team makes in the lives of the children and families of our community.”
