During the “Ceremonie de collation des grades” November 5 at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier by the Ecole de technologie superieure (“ETS”) of the Universite du Quebec a Montreal, Dr. Jeremie Voix, chief technology officer for Sonomax Hearing Healthcare Inc, received the 2007 Award for Excellence. His thesis, titled, "Development of An ‘Intelligent’ Hearing Protector," was recognized as the best doctoral thesis of the year.
Voix’s breakthrough research, conducted in close collaboration with Sonomax Hearing Healthcare and the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), involved the successful development of an efficient instant-fit, custom-fit protective earpiece which is reported to supersedes the capabilities of existing earpieces, addresses the gamut of problems encountered in the industrial workplace, and reduces the risk of noise-induced hearing loss.
“This recognition of Dr. Voix’s work,” Nick Laperle, president of Sonomax, says, “is profoundly deserved. His doctoral thesis work played an indispensable role in achieving a unique technology that is increasingly protecting the hearing of workers around the world. All of us at Sonomax congratulate Jeremie and share in his gratification.” Laperle went on to say that this technology is now the basis of an entire family of products dedicated to hearing.
Voix’s thesis was supervised at ETS by Professor Frederic Laville of the department of mechanical engineering. Laville is also a member of EREST, an occupational safety research team at ETS.
