Oregon residents that qualify for the state’s Medicaid plan—known as the Oregon Health Plan—will now be able to receive two hearing aids as part of their coverage, according to an article on the Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) website.

Prior to the Oregon Health Authority’s policy change, patients were only allowed one hearing aid every five years, OPB reports. Rep. Rick Lewis, R-Silverton, urged the Health Authority to change the rules because he said hearing loss typically occurs in both ears, not just one.

According to OPB, it was determined that the change was not expected to cost the state additional money.
